It combines a high performance dual rotor system with a deadly weapons payload of guided missiles, rockets, bombs, and a 30mm cannon. The Ka is also unique in that it has an ejection seat. Virtually every switch, button and dial functions in the cockpit and the advanced flight model provides an amazingly real sense of flight. Self-sealing fuel tanks were fitted in the central fuselage.

Each of the co-axial rotor assemblies had three rotor blades. The Ka has a retractable tricycle landing gear, the nose gear with twin wheels, the main gear with single wheels — all gear assemblies retracting backwards. Standard avionics included radios, identification friend or foe IFF transceiver, and navigation aids — including a Doppler altimeter system, with the antenna under the tailboom.

There is an air data boom on the nose, and a rear-view mirror above the cockpit. The KA carries radar and laser threat warning receivers, and is fitted with automatic chaff-flare dispensers, mounted on a pod on each wingtip. The cockpit is mostly analog, with a single multifunction display MFD and a head-up display. Once you have a mission scheduled, you fly them using the available helicopter.

During your mission, you can also switch back to your base-ship to schedule new mission or to review the map. The gameplay is surprisingly deep. Perhaps too deep for people who just want to fly and shoot things. Graphically, Hokum is also impressive for its era. The graphics surprisingly delivers the atmosphere of operating in the tropical area with its lush green islands, white sand beaches and blue sea.

The sound is also very atmospheric. For such an old game, the flight modelling is also very good. Trying to fly your chopper in a ham-fisted way will get you into an early grave.
